KUALA LUMPUR: The government should consider increasing the percentage of persons with disabilities (PwD) working in the public sector which is still can be considered as low, said Malaysian PwD Car Club secretary Mohd Fadzriq Izzardy Zainal Abidin.

He said the matter needed to be refined as there were private companies that were still not confident in hiring people with disabilities to work in their companies.

"The government needs to increase the recruitment percentage because not many private companies are hiring the disabled. They don't seem to believe in the ability of PwD even though they have degrees and diplomas," he said in the Koresponden programme on Bernama TV today.

Mohd Fadzriq Izzardy also asked for improvement in facilities for the disabled as well as the process of applying for driving licence.

"People with disabilities now need their own modified vehicles to go to the Puspakom (Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre) and then to the Road Transport Department for a licence," he said.
