Indonesia records new surge of COVID-19 with nearly 30,000 cases

JAKARTA: Indonesia continued to record a surge of new positive COVID-19 cases by registering nearly 30,000 new cases while another 558 deaths were recorded - within 24 hours.
According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency today via its Twitter account @BNPB_Indonesia, a total of 29,745 new cases were recorded today - the highest number recorded so far since the first case was detected in March 2020.
The overall positive cases in the republic have now risen to 2,313,829 with 1,942,690 patients said to be cured.
From July 3 to July 20, the Indonesian government tightened the COVID-19 health protocol by enforcing the Emergency Public Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat) in Java and Bali.
