The Civil Defence Department (JPAM) will assist other enforcement agencies to curb illegal land clearing at Cameron Highlands, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said.
"JPAM members will patrol areas where land clearing is prohibited. Our focus is on new areas or areas where land clearing has exceeded the limit allowed by the state government," he told a press conference at KL International Airport (KLIA) before departing for Kuching, Friday.
The Forestry Department has been urged to start an adoption programme for the highlands to restore the beauty and coolness of Cameron Highlands.
Shahidan said government agencies and voluntary organisations could help out by replanting trees in areas that had been illegally cleared.
"I have also adopted 10 acres (4.05 hectares) for the replanting of trees," he added.
