The country is losing RM2.4 billion daily throughout the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the total losses suffered by the government since March 18 were RM63 billion.

"If the MCO continues for another month, the total loss will be another RM35 billion.

"This will bring the total loss to RM98 billion... almost RM100 billion," he said in the Prime Minister's Special Message in conjunction with Labour Day here today.

He said the government was also aware of the concerns of some parties if the MCO was terminated.

"I am worried too. And it has already happened in some other countries, when the 'lockdown' is ended, the number of COVID-19 positive cases has increased dramatically. This should be avoided.

"So, I have discussed this matter extensively at the Economic Action Council meeting, National Security Council meeting and Cabinet meeting.

"We must find ways to balance the need to restore the country's economy and the importance of curbing the COVID-19 epidemic," he said.

Therefore, Muhyiddin said almost all economic activities would be allowed to operate in a controlled and cautious manner starting Monday (May 4).
