Malaysia is among the model countries which successfully manage unity although it is embroiled in racial and religious issues lately.

National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) director-general Datuk Azman Amin Hassan said the four factors for success were the government's concern for the people's problems, sharing of power between political parties, practice of moderation concept in resolving problems, and the desire of the majority of the people for unity.

"For me, the four factors are important as to why Malaysia is today an independent, progressive and fast developing country as we have the ingredients needed," he told a press conference after the handing-over of duty as JPNIN director-general, here, on Friday.

He said the government would continue to ensure problems faced would be managed well for the people and country's well-being.

Azman Amin said JPNIN was always prepared to face new challenges which came and went.

"As a government agency, we are prepared to manage any controversial issue well and wisely," he said.

On whether the hudud law issue could affect racial unity, Azman Amin said whether it was implemented or not, it should be explained in detail to the people.

"Leave it to the religious experts to explain so that controversies will not arise," he said.

He had served as JPNIN director-general for 10 years and will be replaced by deputy director-general (National Unity), Gandesan a/l Letchumanan.
