KUALA LUMPUR: New COVID-19 cases in Malaysia soared to 3,561 as of midnight Wednesday (July 6), taking the national total to 4,582,302.
According to the Ministry of Health (MOH) nine cases from the total were new imported cases, with 3,552 cases being local transmissions
A total of 1,341 COVID-19 cases were detected in Selangor, followed by Kuala Lumpur (994), Perak (243)
Sabah (196), Negeri Sembilan (160), Putrajaya (123), and Penang (119).
Other states that reported a two-digit number of infections were Malacca (97), Johor (72), Sarawak (55), Kedah (51), Pahang (38), Kelantan (37), Terengganu (17) and Perlis (11), while Labuan reported seven cases.
Based on the data from the COVIDNOW portal, active cases in the country currently stood at 31,540.
Meanwhile, MOH reported 2,035 new recoveries, taking the total number of those recovered and discharged to 4,514,970.
There are 1,184 patients who are hospitalised of whom 40 are in intensive care, with 23 of them in need of breathing assistance.

A total of 35,792 people have lost the battle to the virus since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
Malaysia administered a total of 7,729 vaccine doses on Wednesday, while 85.9 per cent of the population have received at least one dose, with 83.6 per cent fully vaccinated and 49.5 per cent have received booster jabs.
