Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) on Wednesday upheld the decision to terminate its study loan given to Nur Fitri Azmeer Nordin, who was convicted for being in possession of images and videos on child pornography by a London court on April 30.
MARA Corporate Communications Division director, Rohayah Mohd Zain, said Nur Fitri Azmeer was also requested to pay back all the money extended to him.
Last Saturday, MARA in a statement said that the decision was made after the Southwark Crown Court in London handed down five years' jail sentence to Nur Fitri Azmeer after he pleaded guilty to 17 offences, including possession of indecent images and videos of children, with intent to distribute the materials.
"MARA had suspended the loan since he was charged last November," Rohayah said in a statement.
Meanwhile, MARA chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa in his latest Facebook update, personally thought that Nur Fitri Azmeer should be helped to undergo rehabilitation and to continue his studies.
"Whether he should continue his studies with MARA loan or not is a different matter.
"I hope that all quarters will not be hasty in issuing statements on this matter. Helping people with problems is our responsibility," he said.
