KUALA LUMPUR:Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin received the highest support from the people as the prime minister of choice, according to an Emir Research report.

Citing a study conducted in the third quarter of this year, Muhyiddin received the support of 65 per cent of respondents compared to seven other candidates.

Former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is in second place with 10 per cent support while Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is in third place with eight per cent.

In fact, Muhyiddin also received high support in all states, except in Penang, where Dr Mahathir received the biggest support.

In addition, the study also showed that the support from the Chinese and Indians to Muhyiddin is quite strong, namely 50 per cent and 49 per cent respectively.

The second highest support involving these two racial groups is for Anwar.

Similar patterns are also shown among various demographic groups. Muhyiddin received high support from urban respondents (68 per cent).

According to gender breakdown, Muhyiddin received the largest support from female respondents (73 per cent).

In terms of age, he received huge support from young people.

This EMIR Research study was conducted last August with various research methodologies involving 2,096 respondents.
