The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Negeri Sembilan has solved 1,039 snake-catch cases in the first four months of this year compared to 932 cases during the same period last year.
State APM deputy director Major Mohd Rohaidi Halim said among the snakes frequently caught were pythons and king cobras while the other types of snakes caught included copperhead racers and oriental whip snakes and the captured reptiles were handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).
"Most of the snakes were caught in suburban areas, village bushes as well as near chicken and duck farms," he told Bernama.
He said the awareness of the people on the duty of APM in assisting to catch snakes had also contributed to the spike of reporting such cases.
Rohaidi said each district has at least four APM personnel trained to catch snakes.
Among the districts with high snake-catch cases were the suburban areas of Seremban, Tampin and Jempol, he said.
