A trainee who was undergoing a National Service (NS) Training Programme at the Sri Ledang Camp in Jementah, Segamat gave birth to a baby boy in the toilet of the camp today.

Camp supervisor, who found out about the 3am incident, rushed the 18-year-old mother and her baby to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital here for treatment.

The baby, weighing 2.7kg, died upon arrival at the hospital, but the condition of the young mother, was not worrying.

Hospital director Dr Selahudeen Abdul Aziz, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

"We will conduct a post-mortem on the baby tomorrow to identify the cause of death," he said.

Meanwhile, Ledang police chief Supt Harun Idris, when contacted, confirmed receiving a report on the incident, adding that the trainee was in a stable condition.
