KANGAR: Similar to the Aidilfitri celebration, Perlis has allowed the Aidiladha prayers on July 20 to be performed in open areas.

Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail said it was in line with the Sunnah, apart from reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection, compared with performing prayers indoors.

"Prayers will commence at 8 am on the grounds of the mosque and the number of congregants allowed depends on the capacity of the area," he said in a statement issued by the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) today.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also the president of MAIPs, said for optimal participation, prayers can be performed in two sessions, namely, at 8 am for the first session and 9 am for the second session.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said if the weather conditions did not allow outdoor sessions, prayers could be performed inside the mosque according to the size of the mosque.

"All congregants present must always comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for safety and health that have been set," he said.

He also said that the SOPs for physical distancing for obligatory prayers has been reduced to 1.5 metres while religious study activities and lectures would be allowed from July 13.
