The postponement of MyBeras programme which should have started yesterday (June 1) is to ensure that no household is left out from the list of recipients.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said the postponement followed reports that many eligible households were not listed.
"The ministry expects the number of recipients to be more than the 85,000 recipients listed earlier," he told reporters after opening the Entrepreneurship Transformation Seminar 2016, here today.
Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Bakar earlier announced that MyBeras programme had been postponed to improve the distribution mechanism.
The MyBeras programme was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on January 28 when tabling the Recalibrated Budget 2016.
Under the programme, each family is eligible for 20 Kg of rice per month within a prescribed period.
A total of 85,401 hardcore poor families were eligible to receive the 20 Kg of rice for free each month.
