DAP candidate for Bukit Gelugor Ramkarpal Singh Deo has clarified a report by Malaysiakini which implied that he is single and looking for a woman.
In a series of tweets that he posted today, Ramkarpal said that was not what he meant in his speech given at the DAP Wanita’s ‘Gender equality, progress for all’ dinner in Penang on May 17.
He explained that what he meant was in fact, 'behind every man there is a great woman'.
He added that he is in no hurry to get married and he needs to focus on his work.
The Malaysiakini report quoted him as saying “I am single. Perhaps, after Bukit Gelugor, my next campaign should be to find the woman behind the man."
Ramkarpal, 38, the son of the seat’s former MP Karpal Singh, will contest against Parti Cinta Malaysia's Huan Cheng Guan and independent candidates Mohd Nabi Bux Mohd Abd Sathar, 63, and Abu Backer Sidek Mohammad Zan, 46.
The Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election will be held on May 25, 2014.
