A security guard of a plantation died after he was believed to have been stabbed while having supper at Ladang Seraya market area in Kalabakan near here on Friday.

Tawau district police chief ACP Fadil Marsus said in the 10.25pm incident, the victim, aged 49, was trying to break up a brawl between a 30-year-old suspect and another man.

"However, the suspect became aggressive and stabbed the victim with a Bugis knife before the former fled on foot towards the estate workers housing quarters," he said here today.

Fadil said the victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3.50am yesterday.

Police were now closing in on the suspect who was an estate worker in Ladang Seraya.

Meanwhile, in LAHAD DATU, a motorcyclist was killed after the machine was hit by a Toyota Fortuner at Km 100 of the Jalan Bandar Sabahat near here yesterday.

Lahad Datu district police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said in the 2.30pm incident, the deceased, identified as Ghafar Anto, 33, died at the scene due to serious head injuries. -- Bernama
