Many find that the cost of living in the country is already high and the government raising the toll rates would only further add burden to people.
Beginning October 15, 2015, 18 highway concessionaires nationwide will impose new toll rates, with increase of between 10 sen and RM3.
The highways among others include the Kajang Ring Road (SILK), SMART Highway, Maju Expressway (MEX), Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (Latar), New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway (KLK).
Following the announcement, Astro AWANI did a survey to get the reactions of road users on the matter.
For Ramli Jamil, the increase is not justified as people are already burdened by the rising cost of oil and commodities.
"The concessionaires should not increase the toll. This is because the number of cars on the roads are already increasing. So,toll rates should not be raised," said another road user, Mohd Azman Awang.
As for Sulaiman Mohd Mansoor, a regular highway user who supports the governments move said a lot of benefits can be reaped behind the hike.
"An increase in government revenue is crucial at present time. So, this is common. It is the same for foreign countries,'' said Sulaiman.
Road users also took to social media to express their views on the matter. Many generally expressed their disappointment over the increase in toll rates.
According to them, with the high cost of living the increase in toll rates will only further burden the people.

However, not all eight PLUS highway tolls will undergo price hike.
The Works Ministry in a statement said that the adjustment of toll rates beginning Thursday only involves highways in the city.
