The number of vehicles trying to sneak their way to ‘balik kampung’ despite the ban throughout the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) has doubled from 508 vehicles to 1,248 vehicles on Saturday.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said all those who were trying to travel interstate were ordered to turn back by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
"On Friday, 508 vehicles were ordered to turn back, while yesterday, 1,248 vehicles trying to cross the state border to return to the village. They were ordered to turn back.
"It means that the number of people who were trying to sneak their way to ‘balik kampung’ with various excuses have doubled," he told a press conference here on Sunday.
In this regard, Ismail Sabri reminded any party that still has the intention to travel interstate to forget it.
"So, I hope that we don't have to go back (balik kampung) because what we know is that they were all prepared to return to their village with their wives and children, and then when they reached a roadblock, they have to turn around.
"At this point, the PDRM is still ordering them to turn back, but the people must not wait until the police start issuing RM1,000 compound which is at a loss to us," he said.
Commenting on those who had sneaked away and succeeded in travelling interstate, Ismail Sabri said there was no guarantee the individual would escape the roadblock to return home.
"For those who have escaped the roadblock, surely they would have a lot of fun. However, I would like to remind them that after the roadblocks, it does not mean that they can go back to the capital.
"They may have made excuses and got away from the police. But on their journey back to the city later, there is no guarantee they could get away to go to work again," he said.
