Delegates at MIC's 67th Annual General Meeting (AGM) today began casting their votes at 9.10 am to elect the party's deputy president, three vice presidents and 23 Central Working Committee (CWC) members.
The polling process involving 1,400 delegates, including 35 from the Wanita Youth wings and 16 for Putera dan Puteri wings, scheduled to end at 12 noon is held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps) here.
The results are expected to be announced at 2 pm.
The deputy president contest sees a straight fight between party heavyweights Perak State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri S.K Devamany and Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan.
Four candidates are vying to be the next party vice presidents. They are former Youth chiefs Datuk T. Mohan and Datuk S.A. Vigneswaran; Information chief Datuk V.S. Mogan and former treasurer-general Datuk Jaspal Singh.
A record 44 candidates are vying for positions in the CWC.
Campaigning for all the key positions was intense this morning with candidates and their respective supporters going all out till the very last minute.
Earlier, secretary-general A. Sakthivel tabled the party's annual report which was unanimously adopted by the delegates.
Meanwhile, the accounts report presented by treasurer-general Datuk Jaspal Singh, among others showed the party recorded a surplus income over expenditure after tax for the year ended Dec 31, 2012 of about RM2.47 million.
The AGM scheduled on Dec 13 and 14 last year was postponed after the Registrar of Societies nullified the November 2013 elections due to irregularities and ordered the party to re-elect new office bearers.
On Oct 10, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam won the post uncontested.
C. Sivarraajh and M. Mohana both retained their positions uncontested as MIC Youth and Wanita heads respectively for the 2013-2016 term.
Meanwhile, M. Uvaraj also won the post of Putera Head uncontested to take over from incumbent K. Raven Kumar who did not defend his post while R. Gunasundari won uncontested for the post of Puteri head.
