Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has submitted his resignation letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah 1pm today.

The Prime Minister's Office confirmed the matter.

This confirms reports that Dr Mahathir had quit as Prime Minister, although the two-paragraph statement did not disclose the reason for his resignation.

This latest development comes just a day after talks of a new political coalition being formed to replace the current Pakatan Harapan administration.

"Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has sent his resignation letter as the seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia today.

"The letter was sent to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at 1pm," the statement said.

He also announced his resignation as BERSATU Chairman, and a letter was sent to BERSATU headquarters.
