Malaysia beat Timor Leste 3-0 in convincing fashion in a 2019 Asia Cup play-off match at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin, here tonight.
Malaysia coached by Datuk Ong Kim Swee, were clearly in control of the match as soon as the match kicked off.
Striker Ahmad Hazwan Bakri gave Malaysia a flying start in the 16th minute, deflecting a perfect cross from Muhammad Fazly Mazlan.
Five minutes later, the visitors were given a rude shock when Ahmad Hazwan scored again from a pass by Mohd Azrif Nasrulhaq.
Timor-Leste comprising mostly young players who had played in the Singapore SEA GAMES last year tried hard to reduce the deficit and were aggressive in attack but to no avail.
Ahmad Hazwan who was the toast of the Malaysian strike force turned provider in the 85th minute when he fed Mohd Amri Yahyah who replaced Brendan Gan to Malaysia's third goal and score Malaysia's first victory over Timor Leste in three meetings.
