Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said he is disappointed with the 'yo yo' performance shown by national men's doubles pair Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong at the Australian Open Super Series Badminton Championship, Wednesday.
The Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallists, who are the fourth seeds, were shown the exit after they lost 21-16, 13-21 and 13-21 to the unseeded Japanese pair Takuto Inoue / Yuki Kaneko in the first round of the tournament at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.
"We will hold discussions with the men's doubles head coach (Cheah Soon Kit) to evaluate the performance of Goh and Tan.
"I am disappointed with the result but we must examine the cause of their declining performance lately," he said.
He said this after a ceremony of introducing Michelle Chai Han Ching as BAM's new general manager and Dr Suresh Kumar as Malaysia Badminton Academy acting head, here yesterday.
Mohamad Norza, however, praised the mixed doubles pairs of Chan Peng Soon / Cheah Yee See and Tan Kian Meng / Lai Pei Jing who beat their respective opponents.
Chan/Cheah defeated Japanese pair Takuro Hoki/Sayaka Hirota; 14-21, 21-19 and 21-14, while unseeded Tan/Lai upset Olympic champions Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir from Indonesia; 21-17 and 21-16 in the first round action.
