The Cabinet has reinstated the exemption of the cabotage policy for non-Malaysian vessels to conduct undersea cable repairs, with the Transport Ministry to proceed with the gazetting process.

The statement by an Indonesian Consul in Sabah pertaining to the use of wooden hull ships and smaller vessels in Malaysian and Indonesian waters by linking them with the cabotage policy is inaccurate.

It will prepare domestic players to participate in future cable repairing or larger projects while positioning M'sia as a data centre hub.

The current cancellation of the cabotage policy exemption is only for repair works and does not prevent the entry of foreign investments.
