IS: Video purports to show Malaysians involvement in slaughtering war hostages

The involvement of Malaysians in militant group, Islamic State (IS) has heightened to greater heights following the release of a video Wednesday purportedly showing the slaughtering of war hostages in Syria.

Released by the Royal Malaysia Police Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Unit, the 30-second horrific footage - depicts a husband-and-wife duo was uploaded on Facebook by Malaysian IS members. The couple is known as Muhammad Wandy Mohammed Jedi and Nor Mahmudah Ahmad.
The couple allegedly arrived in Syria on January 26.
Another member of the trio featured in the video has been identified as Mohd Faris Anuar, 20, who allegedly responsible in recording the video based on voice identification.
Mohd Faris, who was holding the hostage’s head, is believed to be an Indonesian.
The video also boasted a bold message that reads: ‘as a lesson to those who betray Islam.’
Bukit Aman Special Division Counter-Terrorism Unit chief assistant director, Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay confirmed that to date, there are 61 Malaysians believed to have left their respective homes to join the IS fight in Syria.
‘The original number is between 70 and 80 people,” said Ayob Khan at a media conference here today.
Since March 2013 till last month, a total of 71 alleged IS militant suspects have been apprehended.
Ayob Khan said that Wandy fled the country using multiple routes to make it difficult for the authorities to track him. He added that the first leg of Wandy’s journey included a train ride to Bangkok from Kuala Lumpur.
Upon arriving in Bangkok, Wandy continued his journey with his wife to Istanbul via Moscow. From there, the couple allegedly opted for the land route to get to Syria.
