The crisis besetting DAP and PAS proves their cooperation is a marriage of convenience for their respective political expediency, said Penang MCA chairman Datuk Chew Mei Fun.
She said cooperation among component parties was necessary to ensure a stable government and if such cooperation did not exist, it would actually hurt national development.
"It is proven their cooperation is one of a marriage of convenience and not based on principles, policies or ideals. They contradict one another and therefore such a marriage does not last," she said.
She said this to reporters after handing over cash assistance from the National Welfare Foundation to victims of a storm in Mukim 20, Penanti, near here Friday.
In the April 10 incident, 100 houses in Penang including 42 in the Permatang Pauh Parliamentary constituency were damaged when dozens of trees fell in heavy rain and strong winds.
Chew, who is the Woman, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister, said the principle of Barisan Nasional (BN) was to protect and support needy groups where appropriate aid were provided.
Nonetheless, she said there were more than three complaints from storm victims who did not receive any assistance from the state government.
Asked on the MCA's approach in the Permatang Pauh by-election, Chew said MCA would go to the ground to reach out to voters and serve sincerely.
