After all the wait, twists, the day of reckoning is finally here for the outcome of Malaysian ace, Datuk Lee Chong Wei's doping trial.
At Press time, the hearing opened before a three-member Badminton World Federation at a hotel near Schiphol International Airport in Amsterdam.
Minister of Youth & Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin in a Twitter post said that everyone should keep praying for a favourable outcome for Lee’s trial.
Khairy, who spoke to Lee during his break from the trial said he was in good spirits.
The BWF also declined to comment, with the federation's Gayle Alleyne telling AFP: "At the appropriate time, BWF will communicate as required", AFP reported.
The report also stated that official said no verdict was expected on Saturday, as the panel needed several days to reach a finding and write their report.
"It's a highly technical issue," the official added.
Earlier this month, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said a positive result will enable Chong Wei to play and hopefully win the elusive gold medal at the 2016 Rio Janeiro Olympic Games.
"I am confident that he is in good condition and is prepared for the case hearing," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Permanis Sandilands Sdn Bhd and Curtin University, Sarawak with the National Sports Institute (ISN) on April 8.
Norza was confident that with all the gathered evidence by the lawyer, a positive result could be attained at the case hearing.
Lee, 33, was suspended by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) after testing positive for dexamethasone at the World Championships in Copenhagen in Aug 2014.
Lee left for London yesterday accompanied by BAM general manager Kenny Goh and its council member, Jadadish Chandra.
Lee met with his London-based defence counsel, Mike Morgan who was appointed by the Youth and Sports Ministry before leaving for Amsterdam, the Netherlands to attend the case hearing today.
