The Health Ministry wants to see the outcome of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) first before advising Putrajaya on reopening more economic sectors. Its director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are monitoring the situation and would be able to tell in two weeks' time. "We have given relaxation through the conditional MCO which started on May 4, and hopefully in two weeks, we will monitor the progress to see if there is an increase in the number of new cases or otherwise. "Before more economic sectors can be reopened, especially those like hair styling services, we need to monitor the situation before advising the prime minister," he told a press conference in Putrajaya.

#KiniNews: MCO extended, violators may face heavier penalty

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has announced that the movement control order (MCO) would be extended for another two weeks until April 28. The decision was made after obtaining feedback from the Health Ministry on the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has said the government is considering raising the fine and jail sentence imposed on those who breach the order. In a broadcasted press conference today, he compared Malaysia’s RM1,000 compound on violators to the far higher fines imposed by governments in Singapore, South Korea and Indonesia.
