The Sultan of Pahang has called for greater clarity over the use of the term “tanah adat”, saying Orang Asli land claims must be assessed according to the legal status of the land, including its gazettement, boundaries, and history of occupation. However, for Orang Asli communities, the issue goes beyond what is written on a land title. So, where does customary land sit within Malaysian law?
