A group involving 1,476 people had been returned to Myanmar from Malaysia earlier this week, as part of a wider repatriation programme that could eventually involve up to 5,000 people. The Government of Malaysia says the returns are voluntary, however UNHCR has questioned whether people held in immigration detention can make a genuinely free and informed decision to return to a country still under ongoing conflict.
