The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) detained a total of 414 individuals for violating the Movement Control Order (MCO) nationwide yesterday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, of the total, 407 people were remanded while another seven released on police bail.

He said the number of arrests increased compared to the 410 people who were detained the previous day.

"The total number of cumulative arrests of the MCO by May 2, 2020 (yesterday) was 23,680 individuals.

"A total of 36,345 surprise inspections were conducted nationwide with a total of 5,833 premises being inspected by the authorities," he said at a daily media conference here on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said, the PDRM together with the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) had set up roadblocks at 823 locations nationwide where 552,999 vehicles were inspected.

In another development, he said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had opened a total of 255 investigation papers related to COVID-19 fake news.

"Of the total, 175 are still under investigation while 26 have been charged in court, 11 have been given warning notices and 15 have pleaded guilty," he said.
