Police shot one of the Teloi gang suspects and seized 30 cables worth RM2,000 in an incident at Kampung Tengkorak Batu, Bukit Selambau, near here early yesterday.

Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Md Zukir Md Isa said the incident occurred about 5.30 am when police received a tip-off on cable theft allegedly committed by the 29-year-old suspect and his two accomplices in Taman Berlian Indah near here.

"After receiving the information, members of the police''s mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) rushed to the scene, where they spotted a Proton Perdana car with the three suspects inside," he told reporters at a press conference at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters here, today.

Md Zukir said, realising the police was on their trail, the Proton Perdana car sped off, and then skidded and rammed into the front gate of a surau at Kampung Tengkorak Batu, Bukit Selambau.

While his two accomplices, aged 26 and 33, fled in panic, the 29-year-old suspect tried to attack a policemen with an axe, forcing the police to open fire and it hit the suspect on the right thigh," he said.

Police inspected the suspect the car and found two cable cutters, hammers and Telekom Malaysia cable in it, he said, adding that the suspect had previous records related to drug offences.
