Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said that Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid's services as managing director have been extended for another year by the Ministry of Finance.

The move will allow MAHB to put in place a succession plan and to ensure a smooth transition for the top post.

Bashir, who had earlier stated that he would like to make way for a successor, has agreed to stay on to continue to support the board of directors.

He joined MAHB as its managing director in 2003.

"The MAHB Board welcomes this extension as they would like Tan Sri Bashir to continue to lead the management and guide the company towards continued success and performance," said MAHB in a statement on Thursday.

MAHB shares on Busa Malaysia rose 7 sen or 1.14 per cent at RM6.19 on Thursday, with more than 2.3 million shares traded.
