Three people were killed and two others wounded in a shooting south of Salt Lake City on Tuesday (June 6), police say.

The shooting occurred outside a home in the suburban community of Sandy, according to local media.

The incident forced officials to briefly place an elementary school in the area on lockdown, the local Canyons School District said on its Twitter page.

The city of Sandy confirmed the shooting in a post on its Facebook page, saying there was no ongoing danger to the public.

The two people wounded in the shooting were juveniles.
