A total of 75 villagers from Kampung Lintang and Kampung Tok Sirat, here, were evacuated to relief centres after their homes were flooded since Sunday morning.

Sungai Siput Civil Defence Unit officer Muhammad Hasrul Hashim said two relief centres - Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Lintang and Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Tok Sirat - were opened following the second wave of the flood.

According to him, there were a total of 75 people from 17 families in both centres.

He said to date, the situation remains under control however it might get more serious if heavy rain continues to fall.

" We received a call from a flood victim around 5.45am and the civil defense personnel on duty rushed to the scene to help victims evacuate to safer places.

“Flooding may occur due to rain since Saturday night and most likely it is the cause of rising river water which then overflows, " he told Astro AWANI.

He said the Civil Defence will continue to work with other agencies in monitoring the affected areas and ensure that food aid arrives quickly.

He said their Kuala Kangsar counterpart is also lending a helping hand to ease the operation.

“Currently, the water level in Sungai Pelus has decreased by 53.70 meters, but we still worry that the continuous rain will cause the flood to worsen. Therefore, we will conduct place some officers at risky locations .

“Apart from that, we will also instruct all members to be ready at all times," he said.
