A well-known jeweller in Lebuh Ampang, Abdul Rasull Abdul Razak was injured after being shot following a robbery attempt at his shop today morning.
The matter was confirmed to Astro Awani by Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad.
Abdul Rasull, the owner of Abdul Razak Jewellers sustained injuries on his shouldes and stomach, is currently treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
In a statement, Kuala Lumpur Deputy CID chief ACP Khairi Ahrasa said the incident happened around 9.30 am when four workers were arranging the jewellery in the shop.
“Four men approached the premise and two entered the shop while the other two kept watch outside the shop. One of the men who entered the shop then jumped into the workers’ area while the other stood at the customers’ area,” he said.
The 58-year old Abdul Rasull then rushed forward to grab hold of the man at the workers’ area.
“Realising that they are trapped, the two men outside the shop fired shots at Abdul Rasull. The shots hit him on the stomach and shoulder,” he said adding that the four escaped after that.
“Police’s early investigation shows that the suspects were wearing black jackets and helmets and one of them had a pistol. We found three bullet casings and a slug,” he said.
Attempts to identify the suspects via CCTV footages are still being carried out and those who have seen the incident are urged to come forward to assist in investigations.
A visit by Astro Awani at the site shows that the shop is closed for business.
However, half an hour later, the shop was opened from inside and Abdul Rasull’s son were seen having a conversation with his lawyer and surrounded by his relatives.
The 24-year-old man said this is the first time such an incident has occurred along the busy street.
“I am still in touch with the doctors who are treating my father. I do not have any information about his condition yet,” he said.
Jalan Lebuh Ampang has more than eight jewellery shops.
The shops around Abdul Razak Jewellers are seen open and continuing their businesses as usual.
The case is being investigated under Section 4 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
