KUANTAN: A chicken trader pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge with using counterfeit Malaysian currency notes, amounting to RM700, last week.

Rohamad Mohamad Saaid, 58, of Taman Tunas Makmur, Bukit Setongkol here, made the plea before judge Mohd Kafli Che Ali.

He was charged with committing the offence, involving seven pieces of counterfeit RM100 Malaysian notes as genuine, which was deposited into a bank account of a woman at a bank in Indera Mahkota here at 12.15 pm last April 1.

The charge was framed under Section 489B of the Penal Code, which provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and is liable with fine, if found guilty.

The court allowed the man, who was unrepresented, bail of RM5,000 with one surety and set May 26 for mention for submission of documents and appointment of a lawyer.
