Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the state government would find ways to resolve land issues affecting residents of Kampung Sungai Limo, Sempadi, here.

Uggah said Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg would be looking into solving the provisional leases reportedly been issued on their native land, including the very lots where their houses were built on in the village.

The villagers allege that three companies have encroached on their land, clearing trees, oil palm holdings and other farm plots, including communal forest reserves and territorial domain estimated close to 1,600 hectares.

Uggah, who is chairing a working committee on native customary rights (NCR) land, said the committee was looking into finding ways to solve the "pemakai menoa" and "pulau galau" issues.

"We have met several times but we still need to study in depth various issues, including historical and customary, before we can report to the chief minister," he told reporters after attending a leader-meet-people event at Kampung Sungai Limo, here, today.

Uggah said the committee was very serious about resolving the outstanding issues and was confident that these could be resolved amicably.

He said even the late chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem had reminded him before his passing to seriously handle and resolve the NCR land issue affecting the land owners.

Earlier, in his speech, Uggah called on voters in the Sungai Limo area to give Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, the widow of Adenan, their full support in the Tanjong Datu by-election on Feb 18.

He said the Dayak community needed to give strong support to BN in the by-election so that their voice could continue to be heard.

Uggah said the opposition was only good at voicing out issues but were incapable of solving them, unlike the BN government which strived hard to solving any issue affecting the people.

He said the voters in Tanjong Datu should vote for Jamilah to show their appreciation for what the late Tok Nan had contributed to the constituency when he was its assemblyman.

He added that their votes to BN would also show their support for Datuk Amar Abang Johari as Sarawak new chief minister, adding that he knew Johari as a nice and capable leader who was fair to all races. - BERNAMA
