S. Selva Kumar, who has served a 24-year jail term in Canada for sexual offences, returned to Malaysia today, according to a source.

It is learnt that he flew in to the KL International Airport by a Qatar Airways flight at 7.30am.

Selva Kumar, 56, was taken to the KLIA Immigration operations centre where the police and Immigration Department recorded statements from him, said the source.

He gave the slip to more than 20 reporters who had been waiting at the airport since 7am.

The reporters waiting outside the international arrival hall were informed by KLIA auxiliary policemen that Selva Kumar had come out via the domestic arrival hall.

Selangor Police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat, when contacted, confirmed that Selva Kumar had returned to Malaysia but declined to comment further.

Selva Kumar has served a 24-year jail term in Canada for 19 counts of sexual assault, 28 counts of administering a drug or noxious substance, 10 counts of various kinds of assault and a dozen other charges, including extortion.

He served out the jail term at the end of last month. -- BERNAMA
