Families of the Malaysian pilgrims who went missing after a crane collapsed onto the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Friday could only pray that they will be found safe soon.

Muhamad Fazil Abdul Habib said he and his family had not stopped praying for the safety of his father, Abdul Habib Lahman, 68.

"We are also waiting for the Tabung Haji officer to deliver any news or latest information about my father," he told Bernama when contacted on Saturday.

He said the Tabung Haji officer had contacted him this morning to inform about the latest situation in the Holy Land and about the efforts being done to find his father.

Abdul Habib, from Kampung Batu Besar, Mukim Teloi, Sik, is one of eight Malaysian pilgrims reported missing after the tragedy.

The tragedy that occurred at the Grand Mosque on Friday, claimed the lives of over 100 pilgrims and injuring hundreds of others, including 10 Malaysians.

Meanwhile, Sabri Saad, the older brother of another missing Malaysian, Shahidan Saadm, 52, from Kodiang here, said his brother is a laboratory assistant at Sekolah Menengah Tunku Bendahara.

Shahidan has been married for 22 years to Maziatunazna Bidin@Ibrahim, who is in her 40s.

Sabri said the couple left for Makkah on Aug 17 and scheduled to return home on Oct 1.

He said Maziatunazna did not follow her husband to the Grand Mosque and was resting at the hostel when the mishap occurred at 5pm local time (10pm Malaysian time).
