The flood situation in the east coast of the peninsula has not let up with the number of flood victims evacuated to relief centres now at 44,321 from 11,750 families as at 3.28pm Friday from 38,323 on Thursday.

PAHANG is still the worst affect and according to the state disaster operations room, the number of evacuees in the state now stands at 34,190 people from 8,939 families. They are placed at 99 relief centres in seven districts.

Kuantan district has recorded the highest number of flood evacuees at 27,371, followed by Pekan (3,169), Rompin (2,865), Jerantut (471), Temerloh (167), Bera (65), Maran (49) and Lipis (33).

In TERENGGANU, it was reported that the number of flood victims evacuated to 81 relief centres fell to 6,696 from 7,780 on Thursday.

According to the National Security Council’s (MKN) portal, Kemaman district remains the worst hit, with 2,859 victims housed at the relief centres, followed by Dungun (2,668), Hulu Terengganu (1,001), Setiu (99), Marang (63) and Besut (6).

In KELANTAN, the number of flood victims continued to rise on Friday with 2,339 involving 684 families compared to 986 people the previous day.

Worst hit was Pasir Mas with 1,345 victims from 595 families, followed by Kuala Krai (506), Tanah Merah (222), Pasir Puteh (219), Machang (39) and Tumpat (8) being placed at 33 relief centres in five districts.

According to the state government's official portal the water levels at several main rivers falling from dangerous levels recorded yesterday.

As at 10.30am today, the water level reading in Sungai Kelantan at Tangga Krai was at 22.57 metres (slightly above the danger level of 22.50 meters), Sungai Kelantan at Tambatan Di Raja at 4.32 meters (danger level – 4 meters), Sungai Tualang was at 30.44 meters (danger level – 31 meters).

The water level in Sungai Golok at Rantau Panjang however was at 10.30 meters this morning, above the danger level of nine meters. If the water level continues to rise, more people in Pasir Mas will have to e evacuated.

The weather remained overcast this morning with sporadic heavy rain in the interior areas.

In MALACCA, 25 flood victims from five families in Kampung Parit Penghulu, Sungai Rambai, Jasin were evacuated to Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Penghulu since Wednesday after Sungai Kesang nearby overflowed and inundated their homes.

In JOHOR, 1,071 flood victims from 507 families are currently being placed in 22 relief centres in the state.
According to the KMN portal, as at 11.30am today, Batu Pahat has the highest number of flood evacuees at 486, followed by Segamat (432), Kota Tinggi (145) and Ledang (seven).
