The floods in Terengganu and Pahang have worsened overnight, raising to 1,755 the number of evacuees in the two east coast states this morning.

In TERENGGANU, heavy rain last night caused 1,704 people from 503 families to be evacuated in four districts.

The Kemaman district had the highest number of evacuees at 991, followed by Hulu Terengganu (474); Dungun (231) and Marang (eight), according to the secretariat of the state flood disaster management committee.

It said the evacuees were being housed at 31 relief centres, 15 of them in Kemaman, 11 in Hulu Terengganu, four in Dungun and one in Marang.

The weather was fine this morning in Terengganu.

In PAHANG, 51 people from 11 families were evacuated in the Kuantan district as of this morning, up from 39 from nine families as of yesterday evening.

Pahang Department of Civil Defence director Zainal Yusoff said all the evacuees were from the Kempadang hardcore poor housing area in Berjaya Permai.

They were being accommodated at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Kempadang, he said.
