The Malaysia International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) and several associations have urged the government to take proactive measures to put pressure on Myanmar for committing atrocities against the Rohingya.

In a statement Tuesday, MHO jointly with the Muslim Association of Malaysia (PPIM), Persatuan Penggerak Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (PEMA) and other non governmental organisations wanted the government to put pressure from all aspects, among them, restricting the issuance of social visit passes for Myanmar nationals to enter the country.

The NGOs also called for the cancellation of work permits and temporary work visit permits for the 143,623 Myanmar nationals coming to Malaysia for work, excluding Myanmar from the list of 15 source countries that supply foreign workers in Malaysia and giving special work permits to the Rohingya in Malaysia while the conflict was occurring.

"The atrocities of the Myanmar government against the Rohingya must be stopped and all parties regardless of governmental or non governmental organisations should take immediate initiative to boycott all relations with Myanmar," said the statement. -- Bernama
