The haze situation shows signs of improvements in the southern states of the Peninsular Malaysia, however, air quality levels in Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Perak and parts of the northern states have worsen.

Based on the 5pm data by the Department of Environment (DoE), Muar, which registered air pollutant index (API) of over 700 yesterday morning, is now at an API of 125.

Kota Tinggi and Pasur Gudang, which have been experiencing poor air quality during most part of last week, registered APIs of 74-83 throughout the day.

Melacca is also showing signs of improvements, as Bandaraya Melaka and Bukit Rambai are registering APIs of as low as 128 as of 5pm, from as high as 260 this morning.

Unfortunately, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak and some parts of the northern states are not experiencing the same fate as their southern peers.

Banting, Kuala Selangor, Port Klang, Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam are registering APIs of between 157 and 319 as of 5pm today.

Putrajaya, Cheras and Batu Muda are registering APIs of between 156 and 189.

Another worrying sign is that the haze may be affecting East Malaysia soon.

Monday's 11am and 5pm readings revealed that APIs in Sibu are between 102 and 106.
