The roof of the Kampung Tebauk Mosque in Bukit Tunggal, here, collapsed at around at 4am Sunday.

The collapse affected about 40 per cent of the mosque, which was completed just two years ago with a cost of about RM6 million.

The mosque's bilal, Man Mat, 61, told Bernama he was the first to realise what happened when he came in this morning for the dawn prayers and saw part of the mosque's roof and ceiling had crumbled and quickly informed members of the mosque committee.

This is not the first report of a mosque roof collapse this year. On May 20, 12 people were almost killed after the front roof of the Kampung Binjai Kertas mosque in Hulu Terengganu collapsed.

On Oct 3, 2009, the front roof of the Kampung Batu Putih Mosque in Kerteh also collapsed, injuring three people.

Besides that, the RM292.9 million Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium also made headlines when its roof collapsed on June 2, 2009 and part of its structure collapsed again on Feb 20 this year, leaving three workers seriously injured while two others sustained minor injuries.
