KOTA BHARU:The Kelantan State Legislative Assembly today unanimously approved the bill to amend the Administration and Members of the State Assembly (Remuneration) Enactment 1980 to streamline and increase the salary of state assemblymen.

The bill was tabled by Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah and seconded by state Human Development, Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan.

Mohd Amar said the responsibilities of administration members and state assemblymen are getting more challenging and the people are depending on them to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The bill is also to streamline the allowance for administration members and state assemblymen to be on par with other states in Malaysia," Mohd Amar said when tabling the bill.

He said it was hoped that the amendment would encourage administration members and state assemblymen to be more responsible and persistent in carrying out their duties and to always give their best to the people.
