The number of evacuees in flood-hit Kelantan continued to rise, reaching 10,041 people from 3,334 families as at 1pm, up from the 8,640 people from 2,808 families in the morning.

All of them are being housed at 74 relief centres in eight districts in the state, said Kelantan Civil Defence Force director Zainuddin Hussin.

The district of Pasir Mas had the highest number of evacuees, 6,564 people from 2,443 families, who were being accommodated at 33 relief centres, he said.

Kuala Krai had 738 evacuees (153 families) housed at nine relief centres; Machang 588 (164), also at nine centres; Kota Bharu 599 (153) at six centres; Tanah Merah 500 (122) at 10 centres.

Bachok 107 (27 families) at one centre; Pasir Puteh 549 (156) at four centres and Tumpat 396 (116 families) at two centres, he said when contacted. -- Bernama
