Gerakan president, Datuk Mah Siew Keong today expressed gratitude to the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership for having faith in him, appointing him as a minister in the Prime Minister's Department.

He felt honoured by the appointment, which was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at Perdana Putra, Putrajaya today.

"I'm indeed honoured to be appointed as minister in the Prime Minister's Department by our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on 25th June, 2014.

"Also thank Datuk Seri Najib Razak for having the faith & confidence in me," he said in his entry in his Facebook account.

Najib had earlier announced the appointment of three new ministers and three deputy ministers, comprising Barisan Nasional (BN) component party leaders from MCA and Gerakan, to his cabinet.

Mah, 53, won the Teluk Intan by-election on May 31, defeating DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud by 238 votes.

Mah's victory not only saw BN regaining the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat but also strengthened his position as Gerakan president, winning the post in the party election in October last year, as well as the party's position in BN.
