Malaysia and Singapore today ink the long-awaited agreement on the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong witness the signing of the 350 kilometer landmark project agreement, that is set to have huge potentials in boosting connectivity between the two nations.

"Towns along the way we can see a lot of improvement on its economic activity and definitely open new landscape in terms of our bilateral relations.

"So we looking forward to its implementation according to the schedule, and we think we will able to deliver it according to timeline that we have commited to," he said in the press conference.


The signing took place at the 7th Malaysia-Singapore leaders retreat, in Putrajaya.

Malaysia was represented by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, and Singapore by its coordinating minister for infrastructure and minister for transport Khaw Boon Wan.

Apart from reducing travel time between the countries to just 90 minutes, the spillover effects from the project also include enhancing business ties and improving people-to-people relations.

The project is expected to begin next year and be fully operational in 2026.

It will comprise eight stops in total, namely Bandar Malaysia, Putrajaya, Seremban, Ayer Keroh, Muar, Batu Pahat, Iskandar Puteri and Singapore.
