A man was killed in a freak accident when his shotgun accidentally went off after falling from his motorcycle during a hunting trip on Friday evening.

59-year-old Teragi Anthony was out hunting for wild board with his nephew in the woods near Laka Selatan, Changlun in the 6pm accident.

The victim, who died on the spot, was believed to have lost control of his motorcycle while riding on a hilly road before crashing and triggering his shotgun, said Kubang Pasu police chief Superintendent Abdul Rahim Abdullah.

“The victim was carrying a Spanish-made shotgun. When he fell, the gun accidentally went off. The bullet hit the left side of his head.” he said.

The victim’s 26-year-old nephew, Jasbistih Anthony, was riding on a separate motorcycle at a nearby foothill when he heard a gunshot, assuming it was a shot taken by his uncle on a wild boar.

He went to check on his uncle later and found him lying in a pool of blood next to his motorcycle.

Teragi was known to be a skillful hunter and had made many trips into the woods prior to the accident, said his nephew.

It was learnt that the victim had both the firearm and hunting licences.

His body was taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for autopsy.
