Market Street in Ipoh Old Town will be the city's new attraction with the implementation of the "Ipoh Old Town Walk Street" programme in February.

Ipoh Mayor, Datuk Roshidi Hashim said the programme, organised by Ipoh City Council (MBI) and SNM Concept Sdn Bhd, was aimed at reviving economic activities in the area and enlivening it at night as it was now very quiet.

"The programme will be implemented based on the 'uptown' concept. It will be held daily on part of Market Street from 6.30pm to 2am, commencing on Feb 1," he told a press conference on the programme's pre-launch, here, today.

He said the programme was also to encourage business activities among young entrepreneurs who had the products to market but could not afford the high rentals of business premises.

SNM Concept chief executive officer, Seindy G.S. Lam said 200 trade bays would be offered in the designated area for rent to those interested.

She said the official launching of the "Ipoh Old Town Walk Street" would be held on Feb 1 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year Carnival to be organised by the company at the site.

"The activities will include a dragon dance performance, a magic show and talk by a feng shui expert, while attractive prizes will be given away to visitors," she added.
