MELAKA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Pengkalan Batu constituency, Muhamad Danish Zainudin expressed hope that his rivals would hold a clean contest without any provocations for the Melaka state election.

The 25-year-old DAP member said there was no need for any bad acts, including vandalising campaign materials belonging to rivals, such as billboards.

"I am a young candidate, my only intention is to serve, and provocations will not unnerve me from stepping forward to speak up for Malaysians in the Pengkalan Batu constituency," he said at an online Melaka state election ceramah tonight.

Muhamad Danish is in a five-cornered fight against Mohd Azrudin Md Idris (Perikatan Nasional), Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Independent), Aluwi Sari (Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia) and Datuk Kalsom Noordin (Barisan Nasional).

The Election Commission has fixed Nov 20 as polling day for the Melaka state elections with early voting taking place on Nov 16. The election was called following the dissolution of the state assembly on Oct 4 after four assemblymen withdrew their support for the chief minister.
