- Mitsubishi Power emphasized their range of innovative decarbonization solutions, including highly efficient gas turbines and hydrogen and ammonia co-firing technologies, to support the region's energy needs and their goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2040.
Contributing to keynote speeches, panel discussions, knowledge hub presentations, and hosting industry players at its booth, the company exhibited determination to provide reliable, high-efficiency energy solutions to support the goal towards a more sustainable future.
With a wide presence in Malaysia and across the Asia Pacific, Mitsubishi Power offers a wide range of innovative decarbonization solutions, such as highly efficient gas turbines, hydrogen and ammonia co-firing solutions, and after-sales services to optimize power plants.
This suite of solutions is needed to support the region at this moment in time, as Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific’s Managing Director and CEO Akihiro Ondo said they recognised that enhancing existing technologies need to work in tandem with newer and cleaner fuels for Asia Pacific’s urgent energy needs.
“It’s an honor to be back at Enlit to reconnect with industry partners at an event which has become key to driving conversations amid the energy transition, balancing this with the need for stable and affordable solutions.
“We are excited to drive action by exploring solutions with stakeholders from around the region.”
On Wednesday, the company celebrated the completion of its largest-ever project by capacity—the 5,300MW natural gas-fired power plant in Thailand, developed in partnership with Gulf Energy Development and Mitsui & Co., Ltd.
The existing units have already surpassed 100,000 operational hours, highlighting Mitsubishi Power's commitment to reliable, high-efficiency energy solutions.
“At the core of these plants are eight of our advanced J-Series Air-Cooled gas turbines, with industry-leading 64 percent efficiency in combined cycle – the first of their kind in Southeast Asia.
“Strong collaboration with Gulf Energy Development enabled the project team to successfully maintain timelines and ensure on-schedule delivery of all units, with ongoing adaptation and innovation to continually troubleshoot and improve as units were installed," said Ondo.
He added that this project marks their largest completed order by capacity, highlighting Mitsubishi Power’s ability to deliver large-scale, reliable, and efficient power solutions to meet the energy needs of nations.
They are also ever ready to support Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) with the supply of a gas turbine capable of co-firing 30 percent hydrogen for a 500MW combined cycle GTCC power plant in Miri, Sarawak.
The power plant, being constructed by PETROS and Sinohydro, is a key facility developed to support energy needs under the Sarawak Gas Roadmap.
“This will open doors to us supporting a realistic energy transition for Malaysia, gradually increasing utilization of cleaner fuels like hydrogen.
“By collaborating with our stakeholders and partners like Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), we would like to deploy realistic energy transition solutions to Malaysia," he added.
Mitsubishi Power is also supplying similar technologies with hydrogen capabilities across three power plants in Singapore, demonstrating their expertise and commitment to the energy transition, in line with their own goal of achieving net zero emissions across our entire value chain by 2040.
Ondo emphasized that achieving these goals of advancing cleaner power generation requires the collective efforts of industries, sectors, and nations. Success hinges on addressing complex challenges, ranging from infrastructure and transportation to resource availability and legislation across APAC.
Thus, Ondo said that forums like Enlit Asia play a crucial role in maintaining ongoing dialogue and driving momentum for the energy transition.
These platforms allow stakeholders to gather insights, learn from one another, and, most importantly, inspire collective action.
